World Economic Forum is a reputed organization that is said to be working along the lines of a globalized world. It believes more in collaborated efforts to provide better opportunities and livelihood to people. A long-term goal for the organization is to provide access to higher education to one billion individuals by 2030.
The meetings of WEF are held every year to address different continents. This year it was at Davos between January 16-20. The prime point of discussion was on how to engage private-public cooperation to find solutions to problems in all the economies around the globe.
Economic issues
On the economic front, there was a serious discussion since many economies fear a recession. Though we can see some kind of recovery with the Chinese economy opening after a series of curbs due to covid, concerns with the central bankers across the globe still continue to linger in terms of controlling inflation. The control aspect of inflation remains to be a concern with European and US central bankers. There were greater discussions in terms of reskilling the workforce as many of the economies are going to be digitized. This is said to be one of the main highlights of the discussion.
Climate change
In terms of climate change, more emphasis is given to the PPPP program, which translates to public-private philanthropic partnerships. Close to forty-five nations have come up with a program “Giving to Amplify Earth Action”, which looks to restore our earth’s biodiversity and reduce net zero emissions by 2050.
All this is achievable with the help of nations like India and China, in developing cost-effective technologies. This makes it more accessible to developing nations across the globe without incurring huge investment costs.
Trade aspects
Another aspect that was discussed is in terms of global trade. With a growing climate crisis and livelihoods, many parts of the world have started to see repercussions in terms of violent disasters and drastic weather changes. The only way to clear the differences and address the issues is more in line with the engagement with ministries and business houses to bring potential changes in the nations. Constant engagements would bring changes to the environment on a global scale. To achieve this, the nations must ensure the flow of talent and technologies coming to play to get the desired results. The aspect of constant dialogue and transparency is more to be followed to bring about understanding the ground realities and taking the desired steps.
These aspects sum up the meeting that took place for the year 2023, and we all do hope the nations take the steps to bring about change in the year ahead.
